The support group was formed in April 2011 & was the 'brainchild' of Jill Whibley who at that time was the Clinical Nurse Specialist working for Kent Community Chronic Pain. It evolved at the request of patients as a follow on from their Pain management courses.

For the first 6 months NHS staff, organised, funded and ran the 2 hour monthly meetings. Subsequently, 4 members of the group formed a committee, created a name and logo and established the group goals.  The committee also undertook the responsibility of funding speakers, publicity, and the general running of the group.

The committee of 5 now dedicates there time to organise speakers, poster & leaflet editing, changes to meetings, collaboration with the church, collaborate with members, organise the meetings, proactive about information sharing and running other meetings under the SCPG umbrella.
